AI role-play can help a manager prepare, within clear limits on data and advice.

A manager has a difficult conversation coming and can’t find a clear way to start. Rehearsing a fictional version first can help. The preparation needs boundaries.

Use it to practice language, questions and listening. Don’t use it to diagnose the employee’s motivation or predict their reaction. The manager still has to understand the context and stay open to what the colleague says. A generated script is no substitute for that attention.

Where I’d start: test invented scenarios against an approved conversation framework. Ask HR reviewers whether the exercise encourages clarity, curiosity and sensible escalation. Ask managers what they’d change in their preparation.

The test: keep identifiable case material out of unapproved tools. Sensitive employee-relations matters need human expertise and policy checks.
