Check whether the tool improved the working day

Judge AI tools by the whole working day, since time saved on one task can vanish into review and extra volume.

Time saved on one task can vanish into review, coordination and more volume.

A team starts drafting faster with AI. Soon there’s more to check, more to coordinate and an expectation that the team can take on more. The original promise was to make work easier.

Look at the redesigned day, not just the output. What has actually stopped? What new demands appeared? Do people have more control, or are they just processing more? This is a work-design question with wellbeing built in. WHO recommends addressing psychosocial risks through working conditions, with real worker involvement. Individual support alone isn’t the whole response.

Where I’d start: in a pilot, review interruptions, after-hours demands, perceived control and quality next to speed. Agree upfront how freed capacity will be used. Use aggregated feedback instead of monitoring individuals.

The test: don’t infer anyone’s health or distress from their communications. Concerns need proper support and qualified advice.
